From the collection of the State Hermitage. The picture was painted with oil paints on canvas in 1867 in the vicinity of Le Havre - in the estate of Le Cateau in Sainte-Adresse.
In 1879, the painting was exhibited by Monet at the fourth Impressionist exhibition entitled «The Garden»
.
Upon completion, the painting remained in the ownership of the Lecadre family, then, having changed two owners, in 1893 ended up in the Durand-Ruel gallery, where in 1899 it was acquired by a Moscow merchant and collector P. I. Shchukin, who sold it in 1912 picture to his brother S. I. Shchukin. After the October Revolution, his collection was nationalized and this painting, among others, ended up in the State Museum of New Western Art, and after the dissolution of the museum in 1948, it was transferred to the State Hermitage Museum.
